Compared with cancer in patients with ulcerative colitis, cancer that occurs in patients with Crohn's disease develops at a slightly older age (but still younger than the non-IBD general population) and is more likely to be located in the anal or perianal region. 265 Squamous cell carcinoma may develop in this region as a result of long ...
A history of primary sclerosing cholangitis, a liver disease associated with ulcerative colitis, adds significantly to the already high risk of dysplasia and colorectal cancer in patients with ulcerative colitis. Therefore, at the same duration of disease, patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis should be tested more often, perhaps every year. For these patients, prophylactic colectomy may offer the best …

Introduction. The inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease have been associated with an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC), probably caused by long‐standing chronic inflammation. 1 However, the magnitude of this effect remains open to debate.
The chance of developing cancer of the large intestine (colon) is higher than average in people who have had ulcerative colitis for several years or more. It is more of a risk if you have frequent flare-ups affecting the whole of the large intestine. For example, about 1 in 10 people who have ulcerative colitis for 20 years which affects much of their large intestine will develop cancer.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) harbours a high risk of UC-associated colorectal cancer (UCCC), which is important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Overall Survival (OS) of patients with UCCC has not been addressed well in the literature. Thus, we compared oncologic outcome of UCCC and sporadic colorectal cancer (SCC) using propensity score matching analysis.
